The PTO shaft plays a vital role in transmitting power from the tractor to the connected implements. Parts of the PTO shaft include internal and external PTO yokes, universal joints, safety chains and safety guards. The most accurate way to determine the correct series is to measure the outer diameter of the bearing cap and universal joint from one end of the cap to the other. The location of the snap ring is another determinant.

Internal Yoke- There are two, located at both ends of the PTO shaft -tractor and implement. This is welded to the drive end.
Universal Joint- There are two, located at both ends of the PTO shaft.
External Yoke- There are two, located at both ends of the PTO shaft. It has a "Y" shape to connect to the U-joint and a female hole.
Safety Chains- The chains are used to secure the PTO shaft onto the equipment and onto the tractor.
