The 2Z-0.8/25 is a compact oil-free reciprocating piston acetylene compressor designed for dissolved acetylene cylinder filling service, delivering 0.8 m3/min at 2.5 MPa discharge pressure from a 15 kW, 380V IEC Ex IIB T4 explosion-proof motor. The 2-row 2-stage configuration divides the total compression ratio from acetylene generator outlet pressure to 2.5 MPa into two stages with water-cooled intercooling between stages, maintaining discharge temperatures within the safe operating limits for acetylene compression. Anti-static belt drive and copper-free gas path construction are standard equipment on every 2Z-0.8/25, addressing the two most critical material safety requirements for acetylene compression that do not apply to any other industrial gas.

Acetylene compression demands a more rigorous safety engineering approach than any other common industrial gas compression application except hydrogen. Acetylene is thermodynamically unstable above 1.5 MPa without a solvent - it can decompose explosively without the presence of oxygen or any external ignition source, triggered solely by a combination of pressure and temperature. The 2.5 MPa maximum discharge pressure of the 2Z-0.8/25 is the safe limit for dissolved acetylene cylinder filling, maintained by a hard-wired high-pressure shutdown that is physically separate from the PLC control system. This hard-wired shutdown cannot be overridden by software failure or operator error - if discharge pressure reaches 2.5 MPa, the compressor stops, without exception.

Copper-free gas path construction is the second non-negotiable safety requirement for acetylene compression. Acetylene reacts with copper, silver, and mercury to form metal acetylides - explosive compounds that can detonate from friction, impact, or heat. No copper, brass, bronze, or silver alloy may appear in any gas-contact component of an acetylene compressor - not in cylinder bores, valve bodies, valve plates, piston rods, fittings, or interconnecting pipework. Every 2Z-0.8/25 is supplied with a copper-free materials compliance certificate covering all gas-contact components from suction inlet to discharge outlet, listing each component by part number, material specification, and the alloy analysis confirming the absence of copper, silver, and mercury.

Oil-free PTFE composite piston rings and rod packings are used throughout both stages. Oil contamination in an acetylene stream creates both a fire risk and a contamination risk for the dissolved acetylene product - acetylene filled into cylinders containing solvent must be free of compressor oil to maintain product purity and prevent degradation of the acetone or DMF solvent in the cylinder. The oil-free design of the 2Z-0.8/25 ensures that no compressor lubricant enters the acetylene stream at any point in the compression sequence.

The IEC Ex IIB T4 explosion-proof motor provides the correct explosion group rating for acetylene service. IIB covers ethylene and propylene in addition to acetylene - a higher protection level than IIA (methane-rated) - with flame path gaps sized to extinguish an acetylene flame propagating through the motor enclosure. The T4 temperature class limits the maximum surface temperature of the motor to 135 degrees C, below the autoignition temperature of acetylene at atmospheric pressure. The 380V, 15 kW motor connects to standard low-voltage industrial supply without specialist electrical infrastructure.

 

Application

Dissolved acetylene cylinder filling stations: Small dissolved acetylene filling stations serving local welding and cutting customers fill acetylene into cylinders containing acetone or DMF solvent at pressures up to 2.5 MPa. The 2Z-0.8/25 at 0.8 m3/min fills approximately 8 to 12 standard dissolved acetylene cylinders per hour, covering the production requirement of a small regional filling station serving local metal fabrication and construction customers.

Calcium carbide plant acetylene gas capture: Small calcium carbide plants producing acetylene from carbide and water require a compressor to raise acetylene from generator outlet pressure to cylinder filling pressure. The 2Z-0.8/25 covers the compression requirement of a small carbide plant producing 500 to 1,500 kg of acetylene per day, compressing the full generator output to 2.5 MPa for cylinder filling.

Safety Warning: Acetylene is thermodynamically unstable above 1.5 MPa without solvent and can decompose explosively. Maximum discharge pressure is 2.5 MPa - hard-wired shutdown is non-adjustable and must never be modified or bypassed. No copper, silver, or mercury alloys may contact acetylene at any point in the gas path. Anti-static belt is mandatory. All electrical equipment must be rated IEC Ex IIB T4 or higher. Adequate ventilation and continuous acetylene gas detection are mandatory in the compressor installation area.
