Adapters bridge these differences, allowing implements to connect to otherwise incompatible tractors, saving the cost of purchasing new equipment or retrofitting existing shafts.
Speed conversion: Some adapters can change the speed of the PTO. For example, a 540 RPM PTO can be modified to drive a 1000 RPM implement, and vice versa. Application
PTO size/spline mismatch:
540 to 1000 RPM adapter: allows a tractor with a 540 RPM PTO to power an implement designed for 1000 RPM (or vice versa). This is critical for farmers with a mixed fleet of new and old equipment.
Size adapter: connects a 1-3/8" PTO shaft to a 1-3/4" input shaft, or other size conversions.
Solve clearance issues:
When an implement's driveline is too short or interferes with the tractor's drawbar, three-point hitch, or tires, adapters can extend the connection and provide the clearance needed for safe operation. This is especially common with implements that have large turning angles or a lot of movement.
